After a three week trial, SBH attorneys Mark Smith and Samantha LaFata successfully defended a neurologist and his group against claims arising from the death of a 23 year old female at a community hospital. Plaintiff claimed all Defendants failed to recognize the patient was suffering from a perforated duodenal ulcer, failed to ensure a gastroenterologist was consulted and failed to ensure a brain MRI was obtained from an outside hospital that could accommodate the patient to rule out any neurological diagnoses. Plaintiff asked for $8,000,000.00-$12,000,000.00, but the jury returned a defense verdict. The case was tried in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois from March 20, 2019 – April 10, 2019.
