SBH Attorneys Tom Hill and Samantha D'Anna Successfully Defend Local Gastroenterologist

Tom Hill and Samantha D'Anna successfully defended at trial a gastroenterologist against claims the physician failed to remove a fragment of a pancreatic stent and failed to tell the patient the fragment was left in his pancreas. Plaintiff alleged the retained stent fragment was the cause of his ongoing and permanent chronic pancreatitis until its removal two years later. Attorneys Hill and D'Anna successfully argued the physician had notified the patient of the stent fragment, the decision to leave the stent in place ("wait and watch approach") was reasonable, and that the stent was not the cause of the patient's subsequent medical issues. Plaintiff asked the jury to award damages in the range of $4-5 million. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the doctor and his corporation. The case was tried in the Circuit Court of Cook County before Judge Bridget A. Mitchell. (December 15, 2022)
